Welcome to DRT Dance
Wendy and I (Dave) love to dance and hope to share our passion with others. Through our instruction we help others learn various dance styles to give them the confidence and personal achievement. We have studied Standard Ballroom (Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, and Tango), Latin American Dance (Cha Cha, Rumba, and Jive/Swing), and International styles. We do recreational dances such as the Polka, East Coast Swing, Two-Step, Six-Step, and constantly add new dances, moves and steps to our repertoire. We want individuals to be able to enjoy dancing at their chosen venues. In addition to advertised lessons, we are available for any select groups that would want lessons privately, or together, as well as choreography for the bride/groom wedding dance, or dance instruction for the wedding party. We can instruct the bride/groom or others in line dance so you can make your event memorable by including everyone in a few dances. Wendy and I have partnered in Dance since 1998. We have both been instructors with Dance North in the past. On any given Friday you can find me at Dance North helping with instruction; or find both of us at the Legion; or on Saturdays we are at the Brunswick Seniors Centre or Hart Seniors Center Dances.
Dave Thomas: Prince George is my home city. I retired from the PG Fire Department in 2001, and am also a certified baker. Early in my life I had a keen interest in dancing and took many years of lessons to become proficient in several dance styles–International and North American Social Dancing, as well as country dancing. I worked with the Cunard Cruise Ship Lines for 4 years as a Dance Host, and have travelled several locations–Mediterranean, Germany, England, and New York. My role as a Dance Host was to assist with dance lessons and to dance with single ladies on the cruise lines. In total, my dance background spans more than 35 years. I am interested in helping others to learn and feel confident in various dance styles.
Wendy Schmidt: I grew up in Burnaby and moved to Prince George in 1982. February 2015 I retired from the BC Ambulance Service after 33 years as the Human Resource Manager, Northern BC. I have instructed dance since 1998, and am refining my professional photography skills in my free time. I have my own business and home dance studio: WLS-CDI (HR Consulting, Choreography, Dance Instruction and Images). I started ballroom dancing when I was approximately 15 years old. Since 1998 I have increased my expertise with all types of International and Standard (American Smooth) dance styles, and am confident at the beginner and intermediate levels. Dance is a passion for me. I frequently travel to Australia to visit family and visit the dance scene while there (Synchronized Dancing and Lindy Hop). I want to assist individuals in learning dance and helping them feel confident in their knowledge and technique; without compromising just being able to have a lot of fun. I also do Choreography for Wedding Dance, or other events, as well as work with the bridal party for Line Dances to make the evening an extra special event to include everyone in attendance to dance.
